The Blue Mountains is laying the groundwork for a new bridge at Slabtown, near Clarksburg.
Director of Engineering, Reg Russworm says the 1930’s era single steel lane bridge has been reduced to a nine ton maximum because of age.
That means snowplows can’t get across the bridge or anyone wanting to have a gravel truck or cement truck come to their home is out of luck.
The Slabtown bridge is the only access to the community and residents want to keep that small town feel when a new bridge is built.
Russworm says the community is in the process of doing an environmental assessment and they recently held a “front porch” style meeting with some residents at their homes to get feedback.
1.5 million dollars has been set aside for work on the bridge.
Russworm says they may rehabilitate the bridge, build a new one or build a new access road into the community of Slabtown.
The Director of Engineering says the town will not be applying for Federal infrastructure cash, as some money has already been received in a general roadwork fund that they can use.
A formal meeting will be held in the fall where the Blue Mountains will lay out all the options and get feedback again from the community.
