Now that school is back in full swing, there’s a way to help for child or grandchild work towards their post secondary school goals.
The Great Northern Exhibition in Collingwood is looking for competitors to represent the fair as an ambassador.
The junior competition is open to both boys and girls in Grades 6, 7, 8 and the seniors have to be 18 by August 15, 2010.
One of the Directors of the GNE, Brenda Wilson tells us the winner of the senior competition gets a one thousand dollar scholarship that is held in trust for up to 5 years for the school of their choice.
The junior winner gets a hundred dollars.
The second and third runners up in both categories also get cash prizes.
The senior ambassador gets to represent Collingwood at next year’s CNE in Toronto.
To enter, the applicant needs to contact the ambassador committee and submit a one page bibliography including their future goals.
Once the competitors are selected, the juniors have to prepare and deliver a 1 to 3 minute speech and the seniors write a 4 to 5 minute speech.
The students have to speak about agriculture, rural life or fairs and the winners are chosen during the GNE which runs on the weekend of September 25th.
