Canada Post is reacting to concerns expressed in Kincardine about rural mail delivery.
Council recently discussed the possibility that the federal government may start closing rural post offices.
But Canada Post Communications Officer Mario Circelli (Sir’-sellie) says it’s basically an urban myth, perhaps floating around on the internet.
Circelli says both the federal government and Canada Post remain committed to rural mail delivery.
He says there is no plan to either privatize any more rural post offices, or eliminate rural mail delivery all together.
Circelli says there has been a moratorium in place for several years and it remains in place.
The Canada Post official is hoping to convince members of Kincardine council that no changes are planned.
