The new Bognor Bridge should be ready for traffic by late Fall.
Meaford Manager of Public Works, Steve Vokes says the first phase of the 2 part project is just about complete, and construction is set to begin on the new bridge.
Vokes says the old bridge — which spans Walter’s Creek at the north edge of Bognor — is now gone and work is underway along the river bank.
It’s estimated the project will cost up to 1.2 million dollars.
Meaford will pick up one third of the cost, and the rest split by the province and Federal government.
Despite the fact that fall is fast approaching, Vokes says consultants tell him there is still enough time to get the new bridge built, and open by late November.
Bognor Bridge has been closed to traffic since last October, after an inspection determined it wasn’t safe.
