A new park in Tiverton will be officially opened today.
Randy Roppel — who represents the village on Kincardine Council — says a gathering is planned for 1:30 PM to officially open St. Andrew’s Park.
Roppel says the committee that was formed to oversee the project, and the municipality have worked hard to make the effort a success.
He calls the new park a “prized possession” of the village.
The park on the village’s Main Street had previously been a vacant lot.
It is now filled with flowers, pathways, and benches.
Getting the park completed wasn’t without its snags though.
Old fuel storage tanks were discovered buried at the site, leading to a 177 thousand dollar cleanup project.
Roppel says the extra work was still worth it, because it was “due diligence” to remove the tanks, clean up the soil, and move on with the park project.
