Watch for a special ride of motorcycles and other vehicles on Highway 21 between Saugeen Shores and Goderich today.
It’s the Salute Ride for the Troops to support Canada’s Veterans, and it’s being presented as an awareness fundraiser by Friends of Veterans Canada.
Organizer Ray Keeso says registration in Goderich starts at 8:30 AM.
Riders will leave Goderich at 10:30 AM and head to Southampton.
Registration starts at 10 AM in Southampton, and once the riders from Goderich and Owen Sound arrive, riders from both communities will leave for Goderich at Noon, heading south on Highway 21.
Highway 21 is designated as the Bluewater Veterans Highway between Kincardine and Goderich.
The ride will end at the Goderich Knights of Columbus hall.
Keeso says they want the public to support them and show appreciation for what Canada’s veterans have done for us.
He says we need to remember the three words, Lest We Forget, and the ride is a way of showing we haven’t forgotten their contribution of service.
Keeso says they are hoping to have a bus of World War Two and Afghanistan veterans taking part.
Friends of Veterans Canada video tapes the stories of Canada’s veterans for historical preservation.
Keeso says it’s always nice to see a name, but it’s better to know the story behind it and their experiences.
Keeso says motorcycles are especially encouraged for Saturday’s ride because Friends of Veterans Vice President Harry Watts was a motorcycle dispatch rider during World War Two. However, all kinds of vehicles are welcome.
At least 100 riders are currently expected to take part in Saturday’s ride.
