Kids and the outdoors go hand in hand.
This weekend Grey County is hosting its fourth annual Youth Outdoor Expo this Saturday.
There are still spots open for the free event for kids ages 10 thru 14.
The event runs at the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association Clubhouse south of Owen Sound on the third concession.
Jason Ritchie – Grey County Forest Stewardship Network Coordinator – says this year has many event planned for the kids.
Experienced outdoorsmen will show the kids how to do archery – shoot a 22 rifle – identify certain bugs – and a lot more outdoor activities.
Ritchie says there are many organizations and sponsors who help make this event happen – and happen free of charge.
Some of the organizations involved are the Grey County Forest Stewardship Network – the Sydenham Sportsmen Association and the Saugeen Conservation.
Ritchie also says there are financial sponsors such as Bruce Power and the Sydenham Sportsmen Association.
Ritchie says the expo was first meant to expose kids that would not normally do these outdoor activities to them – but has since fostered to show kids what their parents enjoy outdoors.
Ritchie says he hopes kids come away from the day with an interest in different outdoor activities.
In the past there has been over 80 kids participating.
Parents should send their kids to the event dressed for the weather in playclothes.
The event runs from 9 AM until 3:30 PM and includes lunch for the kids.
