The Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Bruce Power in Tiverton has some heavy reading to do over the next ten days.
Murray Elston tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, he now has the Perrins report on what people think of building a nuclear power plant in Saskatchewan on his desk.
Dan Perrins, the man who led the consultations, says people told him that more and better information is needed so that the public and governments can make informed decisions.
There were 14 hundred responses and a whopping 84 per cent oppose the idea of nuclear power generation.
Elston agrees with Perrins that more education is needed so that both the public at large and the provincial government can make informed decisions on nuclear power.
Elston says as his team goes through the report they will be looking for areas where they can add economic value for the people of Saskatchewan.
But he reiterates it all comes down to public education on this issue.
In the meantime, the Saskatchewan government is suggesting that the idea of building a nuclear power plant in the province isn’t dead, despite the report that says most residents oppose the move.
Elston says Bruce Power won’t make a decision on dropping Saskatchewan as a nuclear site until they hear reaction from the provincial government there.
He expects the government to officially react over the next several weeks.
In Tiverton they will be analyzing the report as well and developing their moves over the next ten days.
Bruce Power has been interested in setting up a nuclear power plant in Saskatchewan and Alberta and have been talking to communities to get the population on the same page.
