Four Grey Bruce businesses have reached the PEAK.
The Bruce Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) presented this year’s PEAK awards last night at the Kincardine Pavilion.
The awards recognize perseverance, excellence, achievement, and knowledge in business in both Bruce and Grey Counties.
Kim’s Cottage and Home Cleaning Services of Tobermory is the Company of the Year with under five employees.
Owner Kim Myles says her business is doing well with over 100 customers — so good in fact that one of her employees has gone on to start her own cleaning business.
Myles says she wanted to do something to keep busy during the winter months in Tobermory.
The River Village Co-Op Market in Teeswater is Company of the year with over five employees.
The co-operatively owned grocery store started in 2006 as a community effort to keep a grocery store operating in Teeswater after the only food store in town closed.
Manager Wendy McKague says the store has brought the community together with many volunteers and has helped breathe life back into downtown Teeswater — even bringing in other new businesses.
Crabby Joe’s restaurant in Kincardine is Corporate Citizen of the Year.
Owner Doug Kennedy says they’ve been involved in the community through many functions like the Scottish Festival and Tiverton Old Boys Reunion.
He says they’ve raised money in and outside of the restaurant through golf tournaments as well.
Flower Expressions, Tent and Party Rental in Owen Sound is the Entrepreneur of the Year.
Owner Donna Kaufman says her business has expanded quickly from being a retail flower shop into a wholesaler that delivers flowers all over southwestern Ontario.
She says they’ve also gone into the rental business for tents and party supplies.
Bruce CFDC Chair Barb Fisher says this year’s PEAK award winners are fairly evenly distributed across the parts of Grey-Bruce the agency serves.
The CFDC provides financing, business plan development, and other support services to local entrepreneurs.
