It’s time for the 12th annual food drive put on by the Bruce Area Solid Waste Recycling (BASWR) group.
General Manager Vince Cascone says starting today residents are asked to put out a bag of canned or non-perishable goods on their recycling day over the next two weeks.
Today residents of Saugeen Township and South Bruce Peninsula are affected.
Cascone says there are seven communities in all that are being canvassed and they include Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, South Bruce, Arran Elderslie, South Bruce Peninsula, Brockton and Huron Kinloss.
He says donations can be placed in an open bag beside the blue box on your normal recycling day over the next two weeks.
Cascone says they’re hoping to do better than the 7,460 pounds of food collected last year.
The food will be taken to the Salvation Army depot in Wiarton for distribution to needy families in the communities served by the recycling company, in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
