A major fund raising event for the Canadian Paraplegic Association of Ontario, is set to go this Sunday in Owen Sound.
The Wheelchair relay challenge begins at OSCVI with registration at 11 AM.
Opening ceremonies are held at Noon, followed by an aerobic warmup and the relay starts at 12:30 PM.
Organizer Scott Westlake tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that the money raised by the event is put back into the community, supporting people with spinal cord injuries in Grey Bruce.
He says the money helps with employment services, counselling and purchasing of equipment.
Westlake says last year in this area there were 8 new injuries.
It is estimated a spinal cord injury costs the Canadian health care system up to 25 million dollars over an individuals’ lifetime, depending on the severity of the injury.
The relay race goes around the parking lot at OSCVI with some obstacles, to give participants a chance to feel what it is like to live in a wheelchair.
There is a bbq and raffles to help raise money for the Canadian Paraplegic Association of Ontario.
