Saugeen Shores continues to work on plans to take over ownership of Chantry Island.
The federal government recently told Bruce County it could take over the island if it wanted too.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith notes the divestiture protocol states the federal government first offers surplus land to the province, then the county, then lower tier municipalities, and then private buyers.
Smith says Saugeen Shores Council has made the decision that it will take ownership of Chantry Island.
However, Smith says there are other lighthouses in Bruce that the County could have a part to play in how they are owned and operated in the future.
