It’s a go.
The Owen Sound Selects confirmed yesterday that they have in fact sent their formal application to once again host the Canadian Junior Men’s Fastball Championship.
The Brick Brothers Volkswagen Selects hosted the Softball Canada Championship tournament in 2008, again last month, and based on those successes, are seemingly more intent on being the host center again in 2010.
Owen Sound barely had a team in 2008 when they were awarded the host center duties, primarily because no one else bid.
In 2009, same story.
The difference though in Owen Sound between 2008 and 2009 was positive progression.
Truthfully, the biggest factor was weather.
In 2008, 3 days were either impacted or wiped right out by rain. Last year, only a late Saturday-early Sunday shower needed to be navigated.
The other differences as Owen Sound moves forward ?
More people have indicated they want to help support the major event and more young ball players want to play in Owen Sound- so much so, that Owen Sound is almost ready to confirm they’ll operate two Junior teams in 2010.
But in the short term, Owen Sound awaits word from Softball Canada, word they expect to be delivered within 2 weeks, as to whether the National Junior Men’s Championship is coming back to Duncan McLellan for a third straight year.
