The Grey Bruce Alzheimer Society needs your help.
The September Coffee break – when people hold individual coffee breaks around the region with proceeds going to the society – needs more hosts.
Community Development Coordinator – Bill Twaddle – says last year their were 350 breaks around the area – this year only 300 or so have registered.
He says it may be a sign of the economic times – but is not panicking.
Twaddle says hosting a break can be as easy as having friends over for coffee and tea and gathering donations – or as elaborate as a wine and cheese party.
Creativity can also be used – as Twaddle says people have gathered donations at birthday parties, buck and doe’s and other events.
To host an event all you have to do is give the society a call at 376-7230 or 1-800-265-9013 or drop by their office to pick up a coffee break package.
The kit includes charitable donation receipts that can be filled out and signage.
Twaddle says the official date of the coffee breaks is September 17th – but breaks can be held whenever it is convenient for the host.
95-percent of the proceeds raised by Grey-Bruce coffee breaks stay in the area – with last years gatherings raising 61-thousand dollars.
Twaddle said the large amount placed them second in the province for Alzheimer chapters in the province for funds raised by Coffee Breaks.
