A financial boost for the Outdoor Education Centre near Oliphant.
E.S Fox — one of the main contractors involved with the Bruce A Restart Project — has donated 75 thousand dollars towards a new observatory.
In a release E.S Fox representative Terry Armstrong said they wanted to do something special in honour of their 75th anniversary.
Honourary Executive Director of the Bluewater Education Foundation, Ray Fenton said the addition is a dream come true thanks to the donation.
Fenton expects the observatory to be constructed over the next year as the centre teams up with the Astronomical Society to build it.
Astronomical Society Vice President John Hlynialuk is thrilled with the news and expects construction on the observatory can begin later this fall.
He says this 75 thousand dollar donation, coupled with the 20 thousand the society has already has pushed they beyond their stated fundraising target.
Hilynialuk says the first phase of the observatory will be a roll off roof building that will open up the observing area to the sky and will also house the University of Guelph Telescope.
He believes that E.S Fox is anxious to move forward quickly with this project so it can be completed by the spring.
