It’s almost time to get up early and hit the books all day long.
School is back in session on Tuesday, September 8th.
The Director of Education for the separate school system Bruce MacPherson all the schools are ready for the most part.
MacPherson says on the downside they expect a drop in enrolment this year of over two percent, like most separate boards in the province.
He says he won’t have specific numbers until the end of the first week of school.
Nevertheless, MacPherson says the drop in students will not result in any accomodation reviews of schools this year.
He admits they do have some smaller schools in some areas, but they may be the only Catholic school in that area, so everything remains open this year.
Students will notice a new addition coming along at St. Peters and St. Pauls in Durham with four new classroms and an expanded gym area, along with improved library facilities.
The Durham work won’t be completed until December.
MacPherson says the new additions to St. Mary’s High School in Owen Sound will be opened for the first time this year.
MacPherson says they, along with the public board and the Grey Bruce Health Unit have contingency plans in place for the expected return of the H1N1 flu.
