Not every great idea comes to fruition immediately.
Sometimes you need patience.
A few years ago, Brett Miller envisioned a year end fastball tournament whereby the various local Recreational Leagues would send their respective Champions and top teams to a showdown to determine which team, and in essence, which league had the best fastball.
When the ball got rolling it was lurching somewhat, but now after a couple of years, there’s momentum to the concept as the Northwest Rural Cup Fastball Challenge comes to Owen Sound this weekend.
All three diamonds at Duncan McLellan Park will be buzzing tonight starting at 7 pm and play continues through the weekend in what amounts to a round robin format followed by a series of elimination games leading to Gold Medal & Bronze Medal games in two flytes at the end of the affair.
The participating teams will come from the Highland Hills View League to the South, the Grey-Bruce Peninsula Men’s League to the North, the Chesley Town League to the West, and from here in Owen Sound, the Senior Men’s Fastball League will be represented as well.
For 2009, there were close to 40 teams participating in those four entities, and for this weekend, the best of the bunch come to Owen Sound for the third edition of the Northwestern Rural Cup Fastball Challenge.
Have a good holiday weekend.
