Thuro-Web, the Durham printing company destroyed by last month’s tornado, will be rebuilt.
The firm is owned by Metroland, a subsidiary of Torstar Corporation which also owns and operates the Toronto Star.
Regional general manager Doug Rowe says its hoped the new building will be finished within eight to 12 weeks.
He says the company was preparing, prior to the August 20 tornado, to install a brand new press in the Elm Street structure.
But he adds Metroland is committed to its Durham operation and didnt need much convincing of the need to rebuild.
Rowe says one of the factors in their decision has been the strong community spirit in the wake of the recent disaster.
West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles says the news is very welcome and he’s looking forward to similar announcements from other companies that suffered damage.
Thuro-Web prints weekly community newspapers from a wide range of communities in Midwestern Ontario.
Its employees, numbering between 30 and 40, are currently working at other Metroland locations in Barrie and Listowel.
They’re all expected to return to work in Durham once the new building is up and running.
