Despite a downturn in the economy, building activity continues in Brockton.
Chief Building Official Terry Tuck says 15 permits were issued in July, some were for single family homes, and the rest were for renovations, and a little bit for the agricultural sector.
Tuck couldn’t provide exact figures on how different the numbers are compared to last year, but he says the number of permits is similar—it’s just the overall value of them that is down.
Tuck says construction value is down by around two million dollars from last year.
72 building permits were issued in Brockton during the first half of 2009.
Tuck says last year’s higher values were due to more industrial and commerical buildings being built later in the season.
He’s anticipating some institutional and commercial activity in what remains of this construction season.
Tuck says one of the permits under consideration is for the new Family Health Team facility, but as for the other possibilities, it’s too preliminary to discuss them.
