An Owen Sound man is in Switzerland trying to raise awareness about the dangers of climate change.
David Lawless is a University of Guelph student and is one of only five students from around the world invited to the United Nations World Climate Conference in Geneva, taking place all this week.
He says the message he and the other students will be delivering to the conference and government officials is that youth must be involved in any decisions to develop policies to deal with climate change.
Lawless says that is essential because young people will inherit the result of any derision s made by the world leaders.
He says that this conference will also show scientists and business leaders that youth have an important role to play in shaping policies that will affect their generation.
Lawless was chosen to attend this conference because of his extensive involvement in environmental issues and studying climate change in Canada.
He says he also will use this conference to promote the Grey Bruce Region and inform the delegates about efforts underway in this region dealing with natural resource management and sustainable practices surrounding the agricultural sector.
Lawless is at this conference until September 4th and looks forward to talking to other youth from around the world about climate change and what they can do to try and reduce its damage.
