A timely reminder coming from the OPP after hikers stumbled on something more than mushrooms.
On Saturday, hikers were searching for puffballs — or mushrooms — in the area of the Beaver Valley Ski Club, when they stumbled upon 169 pot plants.
The hikers, who wish to remain anonymous – reported the marijuana crop to Grey County OPP – and gave them a sketch of the area.
Officers returned later pull the plants out and destroyed them.
Constable Steve Starr says it shows how the public can assist police with
these outdoor drug grows.
He says some signs to look for are — litter or food where it shouldn’t be, trailers or tents in an area where there is no recreational activity, or bags of fertilizers lying around.
Police are not asking members of the public to intervene in any way, since the areas where the marihuana is growing could be booby trapped and those involved might be violent.
OPP Constable Starr says to try and get a location of the grow-op – perhaps by using GPS, and pass it on to police.
