Grey County Council will donate a sum of money toward tornado relief in three of its municipalities.
The amount though has yet to be determined.
Council unanimously supported the motion yesterday made by Chatsworth Mayor Howard Greig to provide financial assistance to West Grey, Grey Highlands and The Blue Mountains.
All three were hit hard on August 20th by a tornado that cut a swath through the region.
Its hoped the amount will be announced in time for the county warden’s forum September 10th.
Greigs motion asked that the finance committee be directed to figure out how much the county could afford to donate.
It also asked for a report in time for the next council meeting, in October.
Chatsworth Deputy Mayor Bob Pringle, chair of the countys finance committee, says his understanding is that the province will donate two dollars for every dollar that’s raised or donated locally.
Grey County Warden and West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles says its unlikely federal relief money will be available because it wasn’t a ‘national’ disaster.’
Officials from West Grey, Grey Highlands and Blue Mountains all took a moment to thank neighbouring municipalities for their assistance since the storm.
