Owen Sound will issue today a request for proposal for the services of a construction manager for the new 33 million dollar recreation centre.
The turnaround on the RFP will be quick.
The closing date is September 11th and a manager will be selected by City Council on September 18th.
City purchasing manager Jeff Tuohy told council last night that the turnaround could actually be less than half the time allotted — which is five days.
Councillor Jim McManaman says the selection of a construction manager is a vital early step in the project’s development.
McManaman — who is the chair of the rec centre’s steering committee — says the manager will work closely with the architect to oversee all aspects of construction.
Separately, Council also accepted on Monday a memorandum of understanding between the city and its partner in the project, the Family Y.
This document spells out the responsibilities of both parties as the construction of the rec centre moves forward.
