250 dollars doesn’t sound like a lot of money — but there was a lot debate about spending that much in Meaford.
In the end — the municipality decided to donate 250 dollars for disaster relief in Haldimand County after flooding last Winter caused 1.8 million dollars in damage.
For the second time this month, Meaford Mayor Francis Richardson had to break a tie and vote in favour of the donation.
At Meaford council’s committee of the whole meeting in August — Councillors Harley Greenfield, Jim McPherson and Gerald Shortt voted against giving the money.
The same 3 people voted against the donation on Monday August 24th.
This despite Meaford suffering a flood problem of its own last week, one that has closed the municipalitys public library for repairs.
Shortt and Greenfield both say they feel Meafords money would be better spent on its own affairs.
