An amateur boxing card is slated for tonight at the Durham Arena.
The card had already been scheduled to promote the local boxing club.
It will continue to go ahead as a partnership between the club, the Ontario Boxing Association and the Durham Activity Fitness Centre, which was destroyed in last week’s tornado.
The fitness centre has existed for 12 years in Durham. Only the cement floor remains on site at 245 Elm Street East.
Its members have donated tens of thousands of hours of non-profit volunteer service to the community, including such events as an annual youth fish derby.
Eleven bouts will take place, including two between female boxers.
The competitors will include eight local pugilists from Durham, Hanover, Mildmay, Neustadt, Port Elgin and Walkerton.
The doors open at 5:30 PM with the first bout scheduled for 7 PM.
Tickets cost $15 and will be available at the door.
VIP tickets will also be available for $25.
Event proceeds will be donated to the local tornado relief fund which has been established at the CIBC branch in Durham.
