A bank will always lend money, but this time they’re raising it.
The Meridian Credit Union branch in Kincardine is holding a fundraising barbecue today for the United Way of Bruce-Grey’s Backpack program.
It will run from 11 AM until 5 PM.
Branch Manager Mike Watt says support is down so far this year and the credit union wants to help.
The backpack program collects backpacks and school supplies for local children whose families might not be able to afford them otherwise.
The United Way has received over 400 more requests for backpacks this year for a total of 16 hundred — and some major donors have not been able to contribute.
Watt says fundraising for the backpack program is down substantially this year due to the state of the economy.
But he’s hoping the barbecue will help improve things.
