A dramatic rescue on Georgian Bay.
Grey County OPP was called to Big Bay after a couple of men ended up in the waters around 11:30 AM Tuesday when their canoe overturned.
Two men from the Hamilton area — ages 22 and 26 — were in a canoe when it was tipped by a large swell about 200 meters east of the government dock.
The men indicated they had life jackets in the canoe but weren’t wearing them.
One of the men managed to get a life jacket on but the other floated away in 18 degree Celsius water.
Friends with a canoe were unable to assist because they felt the second canoe would also tip.
But a small power boat in the area responded and the people inside pulled the men out of the water just prior to police arrival.
Both men were OK.
The OPP remind boaters to wear life jackets at all times.
