The Mayor of Grey Highlands has called a Special Council meeting for next Wednesday September 2nd.
Brian Mullin says council will consider a resolution to apply to have Grey Highlands declared a disaster area.
Mullin says the community suffered about one million dollars in damage during the tornado storm last Thursday.
Once an area is declared a disaster relief area, the residents, commercial properties, non-profit groups and the agricultural community will be able to access the Ontario disaster relief assistance program.
The application to get an area declared a disaster area, must be made within 14 days of the event.
Ontario will now provide 2 dollars in funding for every dollar raised locally under the province’s Disaster Relief Assistance Program.
Blue Mountains Council has already declared the town a disaster area to qualify for funding.
