The Meaford Public Library is expected to be reopened in four to six weeks after being flooded out during last week’s storm.
In the meantime, patrons can drop off books at a storefront location on Sykes Street North this week from 10 AM to 3 PM.
They can also take out books from the Owen Sound library for free thanks to a gesture from the board.
Meaford library board vice-chair Michael Richardson says residents can also take out books for free from the Owen Sound library thanks to a gesture from the board.
Council was told the librarys collections have been unharmed by the storm.
In a separate but related development, Meaford businessman Terry Scott asked council to consider again an opportunity to relocate the library permanently to the old Amerock office building on Cook Street.
Council agreed to lease the premises last year for that purpose but the deal never went through.
Scott says relocation would save up to two-thirds of the expected cost of an entirely new building, which is the municipalitys long-term goal.
He also says the necessary work could be done in a matter of weeks.
Mayor Richardson says municipal staff will be asked to consider Scotts proposal and then to report back to council.
They’re also considering erecting a new library at Market Square.
