Don’t be surprised if you see a yellow school bus on the road.
A number of students across the region are heading back to class a little early this year.
Students will be at St. Mary’s High School in Owen Sound and Walkerton’s Sacred Heart High School for the next two days.
Catholic Superintendent of Education Jerry Casey says its all part of a two day Grade 9 orientation program.
He says it’s designed to take the stress out of that first day of school in September.
Students will be given tours of the school, receive their class schedules, assigned to their lockers and have a chance to meet with staff.
About 30 student peer mentors from each school will also be on hand to provide assistance to students making the transition.
Student Council members will also be there to run students through a number of fun activities during their free time.
This is the sixth year the Catholic high schools have offered this program.
Casey says students have responded very positively — noting the program boasts a 90 per cent participation rate among Grade 9 students.
This year about 275 grade nines are participating — 145 from Sacred Heart and 130 from St. Marys High School.
As part of the orientation program, St. Mary’s minor niners will even get to go to Canada’s Wonderland on Wednesday.
