It was a case of mistaken identity in Grey Highlands.
Grey County OPP were called to a home east of Eugenia on Saturday after a three foot snake crawled out of the bathroom wall at home being renovated.
The homeowner thought the snake was a Massasauga rattler and called police for help.
After some assistance, officers determined the snake was actually an Eastern Milk Snake — which do bite — but aren’t venomous.
The large size of the snake and its tendency to vibrate its tail when threatened leads many to mistake the milk snake for a rattler.
The less dangerous variety is actually a specially protected species protected from being trapped or kept in captivity.
OPP say once the snake’s true identity was confirmed..it was allowed to slither away in peace.
