As the tornado clean up continues in Durham, local residents and businesses are stepping up to help out.
McLean’s Home Hardware owner Doug McLean is offering free chainsaw rentals to people trying to clear their properties of fallen trees.
McLean tells Bayshore Broadcasting he has 30 chainsaws available.
He says if you need one, just come by the store and provide your name, address, and a credit card number.
You can then keep the chainsaw for as long as you need it.
McLean says about 10 people have already taken him up on the offer.
McLean says after the tornado hit, he really wanted to do something to help the people affected.
He knows one family on Concession 2 where 150 trees on their property were brought down.
McLean says he and the corporate office in St. Jacob’s realized people would need a lot of help cleaning up their properties and decided to provide the equipment to do it.
McLean says his own business was nearly taken out by the tornado.
The Quonset huts where he stores things like fertilizer, cement, and salt were destroyed, doing about 10-thousand dollars in damage.
McLean says he witnessed the tornado rip through the industrial park behind him in 38 seconds, lifting the roof off Thuro Web.
The chainsaws will be available for the rest of this week at McLean’s Home Hardware, at 635 Garafraxa Street in Durham.
