People in the community of West Grey are rallying to help tornado victims in Durham.
The municipality already has a long list of people who have registered as volunteers to help in any way after Thursday’s tornado.
More people can register today and tomorrow at the Durham Resource Centre at the Rockwood Terrace or by calling 519-369-5058.
Municipal officials say they will contact people if their assistance is required — as work plans are being organized this weekend.
Environment Canada confirmed Friday that indeed an F-2 tornado did touch down in Durham as well as the community of Vaughan, north of Toronto.
The Durham industrial park and the Conservation area were the hardest hit areas from Thursday’s storm.
The Durham landfill will also remain open until 6 PM so residents can get rid of any debris from the storm for free.
The municipality is also coordinating efforts of food donations of canned and prepackaged goods.
But they will not accept homemade items since meals have to be prepared in approved kitchens inspected by the health unit.
If people need food — they can visit the makeshift shelter at the Durham legion.
The municipality of West Grey has set up a financial donations account.
Those wishing to donate funds to assist with needs can do so at any CIBC Branch — the account number is # 02852 : 3101916.
The municipal office will also remain open this weekend for emergency purposes.
