Today marks the premiere edition of the Streets Alive Owen Sound Busker Extravaganza.
The event features upwards of 100 entertainers performing throughout the downtown core all day from 10 AM till 4 PM.
The buskers will be along 2nd Avenue East from 8th to 10th Street — and along 1st Avenue West from 8th street down to the harbour.
Co-Chair Linda Aldridge says the entertainers went through a rigorous interview process to make the cut for the festival.
The lineup includes bagpipes, singers, jugglers, clowns, a fire twirler and a reggae band.
Aldridge says with the huge pool of talent the festival seemed the next step as many buskers have been performing at the Owen Sound Farmers market.
Aldridge hopes this festival will inject money into the local economy with people visiting local businesses and restaurants during the event.
There was a preview of the buskers last night on the steps of city hall.
Maps for the locations of the entertainers will be available at the registration tent in front of city hall this morning.
There is also a Big Hat Jam on Saturday night from 8 PM to 10 PM in the market square behind city hall – all singers and musicians are invited to participate.
The entire event is free of charge and good for all ages.
