The Lion’s Head Country Music Festival will not die.
As the festival runs this weekend for the 29th year – talk had surfaced in recent days that this year would be the final run.
Chairman Gail Brinkman says the volunteer base had really lessened with only eight people on the committee this year.
Brinkman received word Wednesday in a letter from the local Rotary Club saying the Rotarians would take over the festival next year.
Brinkman says the committee is very happy with the news.
He adds the festival not only injects money into the local economy every year – but most of the proceeds from the event get donated to local causes.
In the 29 years the festival has generated over 250-thousand dollars in donations to the community.
In 2000 the festival donated 5-thousand dollars towards a doctors clinic — plus they have donated in the past to hospital renovations — furniture in the new community center and a walkway on the beach.
Brinkman says he will be helping out with a few other members of this year committee to help the Rotarians take over next year.
The festival runs this Friday through to Sunday with the main event happening on Saturday at the Lions Head Community Centre at 3 PM.
Campgrounds do open tomorrow for the event.
This year’s line up includes the Fiddling Beckett family from Kemble, Singer Naomi Bristow from the Alliston area and singer Jim Beech from Paisley.
Tickets are available all weekend at the door.
