Officials from Owen Sound have taken the issue of Springmount’s expansion, right to the Municipal affairs office.
Grey County approved a plan to expand Springmount’s boundaries, but the city is opposed for a number of reasons.
City County Councillor Arlene Wright says they met with MPP Carol Mitchell, the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs, to discuss the issue.
Owen Sound is opposed to an expansion of development along the sunset strip because of the impact on traffic in the city, as well as a concern about a possible impact on drinking water from the Pottawatomi river.
The new Grey county official plan still needs ministry approval.
Georgian Bluffs claims any new lots at Springmount would be used only for “dry” commercial businesses and would not pose a long term environmental risk.
