Everyone has heard the saying buyer beware.
In this case the OPP are telling the public is should be seller beware.
Bruce Peninsula OPP have had several reports where people are trying to sell property on the internet and they are getting phoney bank money orders in payment.
The culprits ask that the property be shipped out of country and are hoping the items are sent before the seller is told that the money order is a fake.
Another scam involves a money order that is sent in an amount greater then the cost of the purchase.
The buyer contacts the seller and asks that the difference be sent by Western Union immediately, again hoping the funds will be sent before the fake money order is discovered.
OPP say the fraudsters will make many such purchases each day hoping a few will fall for the scam and send them the money or property.
Police advise — dont be a victim.
Be extremely cautious when buying or selling property over the internet.
