Collingwood’s private school is defending the government grants it has received to fix up its soccer pitch.
The half-million dollars in Infrastructure funding has spurred a Collingwood man to start an online petition calling for the money to be taken back.
Pretty River Academy Development Officer Abbey Stec tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, she didn’t know there would be controversy when completing the application for the funding.
She says there was no special lobbying by parents of students to secure the money.
Stec says the funding the school is getting doesn’t take away funding from other projects in Collingwood, since she says thy grants were looked at on a case-by-case basis, and were not awarded by location.
Stec says she invites the petition’s author, Lorne Kenney for a tour of the school to see what goes on there.
There are now more than 200 names on Lorne Kenny’s online petition calling for the federal and provincial governments to take back the funding for the private school’s soccer fields.
