The climax of the Canadian Lacrosse season is upon us.
The Founders Cup for the Canadian Junior B title started yesterday in Beaumont, Alberta and it’s widely expected that the Ontario Champion Green Gaels will be the class of the field.
Last year, Six Nations of Ontario won it all, while the host Guelph Regals, who didn’t qualify for the Ontario playdowns last year, were the runners up, so you know where the power is in the country.
Meanwhile, the Ontario Junior A Championship wrapped up last night at Orangeville with the Northmen winning game 7 by a 9-6 count over Brampton.
The Orangeville lineup has a huge Owen Sound flavour with Travis Gibbons, Adam Jones, Mat McLeod & of late, Mat Eckert all suiting up for the Northmen.
Last night, both McLeod & Jones had 5 point games.
And while I know this is a yearly query, with altering names certainly, but if Gibbons, Jones, McLeod and Eckert played all year in Owen Sound, would the NorthStars not be in Beaumont ?
Unfortunately, we’ll never know.
And finally, the countdown for the Owen Sound van Dolder Home Team Woodsmen is on.
In 6 days, the President’s Cup commences at Six Nations with Owen Sound trying to become the first franchise in 20 years to win the National Senior Lacrosse title in back to back years.
