The Summerfolk weekend is here.
This afternoon marks the begriming of the 34th annual music and crafts festival located in Owen Sound Kelso Beach Park.
Artistic Director Richard Knechtel says this year the musical talent ranges from traditional folk music to Latin to Country swing to the sounds of the Lighthouse swing band.
Knechtel says he has put together a line up of performers that should appeal to just about every musical taste and age group.
Knechtel says this year’s Summerfolk also will feature one of the last Owen Sound appearances by the area’s world famous Tanglefoot.
The grpup will disband at the end of the year after their annual Christmas concert at the Roxy.
Knechtel says the Sunday night show also will feature a musical tribute to Canadian Songwriter and singer Stan Rogers.
Georgian Bay Folk Society President Brenda Scott says the artisan village this year will feature 41 different crafter’s and also some live demonstrations of their work.
She says there will also be a wide variety of different types of food available — ranging from locally produced food to ethnic dishes.
Knechtel says three years ago they wanted to make food the third art form at Summerfolk along with the music and crafts, and he says they have succeeded in doing just that.
