Another Relay for Life Fundraiser in Bruce County for the Canadian Cancer Society.
It’s Kincardine’s turn to host the event that brings people together to share stories of hope and survival and raises money for the organization.
Kincardine organizer, Norie Dickson says last year they had 35 teams and a total of 343 participants – help raise almost one hundred thousand dollars ($96,895).
Dickson expects to be able to do at least the same this year, if not better.
She believes donations, luminary sales and special events held specifically to raise money for “relay” are strong this year.
She is pleased to see some people are going at great lengths to raise money – one Kincardine couple getting married has asked for any would be wedding gifts – to be made in the form of a donation to the Society’s Relay for Life.
Opening ceremonies begin tonight at 7 PM with a survivors lap at the Davidson Centre for the twelve hour non competitive relay.
The event runs until 7 AM tomorrow – with entertainment and fun all night long for those taking part.
Dickson says half of the money benefits cancer research, the other half stays in the community for local needs.
