Owen Sound’s Mayor is hoping the cities does better this year in the Energy Conservation Challenged issued by the Mayor of Woodstock.
The Count me in Challenge is held on the anniversary of the 2003 blackout that affected large areas of the eastern part of Canada and the United States.
Hydro One will track the electricity usage for the day and report which community records the largest percentage reduction in electricity consumption.
Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners says last year we did not do that well and is hoping that city residents will do their part to cut back on electrical consumption.
She also says she believes many people did not take part in the Count me in Challenge because of the lengthy questionnaire that people had to fill out to register.
The 100 question document asked about personal energy consumption and conservation and Lovell Stanners says perhaps that should be changed for next year.
Rather than spend the time filling out the questionnaire, people should just be able to say yes or no as to whether they wanted to take park.
Lovell Stanners says that would get a lot more people involved in the conservation campaign.
She says the city is doing its part trying to reduce its energy consumption not just on this one day but all year long.
Lovell Stanners says the new recreation centre also will be state of the art when it comes to being green and energy efficient.
