South Bruce continues to go against the current when it comes to building activity.
Chief Building Official Don Jackson says 24 building permits with a construction value of 5.6 million dollars were issued in July, bringing the total for this year to 130.
That’s a sharp contrast to June’s numbers — when 19 permits were issued with a value of 1.3 million.
Jackson says people are telling him interest rates are low, their jobs are secure, so they figure its a great time to build.
He calls the recent activity strong and a pleasant surprise.
Jackson says new building is spread fairly evenly across the municipality, a lot of it is in Mildmay, but most is in the rural areas where people are building houses.
But he says the type of building taking place is a fairly good cross section of residential and agricultural.
