The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services is calling for applications for a “Safer and Vital Communities Grant.”
Saugeen Shores Police Chief Dan Rivett says although any program offered through the grants will likely assist police, the police themselves cannot apply.
Rivett says applications from community based groups; not for profit and incorporated organizations can apply to the ministry.
He says this year the theme is “Crime Prevention Pays,” and the whole purpose is to see what kind of ideas come from any given community.
Rivett says this a one time funding to establish a sustainable community crime prevention initiative in the amount of 20 thousand dollars.
He says if you apply with an idea, make sure that idea is “way outside the box.”
Even individuals can apply, as long as they are partnered with a group that fits the criteria and you have the support of the police.
Deadline for applications is August 14th.
