South Bruce Council has endorsed the idea of signing up another doctor for the Brockton Family Health Team.
A doctor is supposed to be interested in coming to Brockton, but South Bruce wants to be sure it pays a share that only represents the number of residents who use the family health team there.
Residents of some corners of the municipality are closer to Wingham and Hanover instead.
As it sits right now, South Bruce would have to pay 21.5 per cent of the expense, the rest would be covered by Brockton and Arran-Elderslie.
South Bruce Mayor Bill Goetz says council is in favour of reaching a deal in principle, but they still would like to have some of their questions answered.
Due to the nature of the subject, much of discussions are taking place in closed session.
Goetz adds that it seems like there is now a bidding war between municipalities when it comes to attracting new doctors.
He says that’s likely to keep happening as long as the doctor shortage continues.
