Owen Sound council has selected a Toronto architectural firm to design the new regional rec complex.
Shore Tilbe Irwin & Partners was one of five firms that vied for the job.
City staff has been directed to negotiate a contract with them to begin work immediately.
Councillor David Adair says the firm was chosen because of its experience not only in building arena and pool complexes across the province …but also because it has worked extensively with municipalities and YMCA’s..which is the case in Owen Sound.
Design work starts this week on the 33 million dollar project which should be complete by the spring of 2011.
Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners says all five presentations made on Tuesday were first class.
She says every firm pledged to ensure that this region is tapped as much as possible for local labour and materials in the project to help stimulate the local economy.
