Construction on the long-awaited link between the two sections of 10th Street East in Owen Sound could begin this fall.
Council approved a recommendation Monday night made by the city’s operations advisory committee that tendering take place as soon as possible for the first phase of the construction.
That phase includes the installation of underground utilities, the placement and the compaction of the road base, and the construction of a retaining wall.
The goal is to preserve trees as a green buffer between the road and current and future residential properties.
Chair of the operations advisory committee, and Councillor, Bill Twaddle, hopes to get through the tendering process in enough time so construction can begin this fall.
Twaddle says there was a lot valuable input from a recent public meeting.
He’s pleased to report that a large number of trees in the road allowance can and will be saved.
The new link will not immediately be paved and opened after its built, though.
That will not happen until after further work is done at the intersection of 10th Street East and 9th Avenue East.
