A Southampton woman is speaking out about proposed sewer work in Southampton.
Engineering work will be done – to find out more information should council approve a plan to install sanitary sewers north of the Saugeen River; ultimately replacing the current septic systems.
Southampton Resident Joyce Stirling is against the change.
She is upset that as stated in a recent Bayshore Broadcasting News Poll, three councillors have already declared their support for the project.
She says they are putting the “cart before the horse” by voting for work to be done without even getting details.
Stirling is also concerned that council is simply throwing out issues right now – without having complete details, to make any ultimate decision palatable.
She says for example, at first some were told they had to hook up within nine months – now they’ve been told they have up to two years.
Two thirds of the multi million dollar project will be paid for by federal and provincial stimulus funding grants.
The final third will be up to the town to pay for – and ultimately those affected, like Stirling.
If council decides not to go ahead with the project, engineering work will immediately come to and end — but council will be on the hook for the more than four hundred thousand dollar cost to conduct it.
