A Collingwood man has started an online petition to fight the hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal grant money offered up to a private school.
The Pretty River Academy won a half million dollar grant to upgrade its soccer pitches in the last round of federal infrastructure stimulus.
At the time, Simcoe Grey MP Helena Guergis said she helped secure the grant.
The town’s Director of Leisure Services wrote a letter in support of the application.
Other applications from Collingwood — including one to put a roof over the outdoor skating rink — were turned down.
The petition — started by Lorne Kenney — calls the grant farcical, and says taxpayer money should not be used to help build facilities for private schools.
It calls on the federal and provincial governments to take back the money.
