Outspoken MPP Bill Murdoch is downplaying a difference of opinion with fellow Progressive Conservative MPP Norm Sterling.
Murdoch says he is dead against Sterling’s idea that municipal politics should have a party structure.
Sterling’s comments were published in an Ottawa newspaper a week ago.
Murdoch — who now serves as the PC rural and northern affairs critic — says municipal politicians should remain non-partisan.
The Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP says local politicians have a better understanding of what takes place in their own backyard.
Murdoch also feels there is too much party politics provincially and federally as members tow the party line even though their constituents may disagree.
Murdoch doesn’t feel this issue will divide the Progressive Conservative caucus.
In fact — Murdoch feels the majority of caucus will support his position.
Murdoch was booted from caucus last fall for suggesting that then-leader John Tory find another job — but he returned to the fold in April after Tory resigned.
Murdoch says he will continue to disagree with party members despite his history.
